Marriage is for more than one day
One of my best friends got married a week ago today. It blew my mind. I am a 22-year-old woman in a stable relationship and the idea of marriage sent me into a whirlwind of thoughts.
A wedding is for one day. Weddings can cost upwards of 100 thousand dollars - for one day. There’s the venue, the dress, the tux, the cake, the flowers, the dj, the invites, the party favors, the wedding rehearsal dinner and so on and so on. Yet, a marriage is supposed to be forever. Something about these figures just doesn’t seem right to me.
Why does our society focus so much on the actual day of marriage, but when the cake is eaten and the white dress comes off where does everyone go? We all sit there watching two separate people commit their lives to each other and then we all go home. Shouldn’t we focus more on helping our married friends and family after the wedding rather than before?
I guess I’m one of those old fashioned gals who believes that it takes a village to not only raise a child, but to keep a marriage together.
